A tradesperson, such as a plumber, electrician or carpenter, will accumulate a large number of tools over the years with some of them being specialist ones appropriate to the business that person operates in. A number of these tools can cost hundreds of pounds to purchase and, collectively, may be worth many thousands.
Those tools are vital to a tradesperson being able to run their business effectively and, in the unfortunate event of them being stolen, many of them would need to be replaced immediately.
You may think that, if your tools are stolen from the back of your van, your van insurance policy will pay out. Well, this may not be the case so you should read your policy carefully. Some van insurance policies do provide a certain amount of cover for your tools but this is usually rather limited as, for instance, the maximum amount of cover may be for only £500.
However, there is another option and that is to arrange van tools insurance.
Van tools insurance provides more extensive cover than you may have with your standard van insurance policy. Below are a number of benefits that some van tools insurance policies having: –
- Tools may be covered even if they are stolen from the back of your van during the unloading/loading process when they may have briefly been left unattended.
- Cover for up to a value of £5,000 worth of tools being stolen.
- Most insurance companies would expect the tools to be removed from the van overnight but you may be able to include the option of overnight tools cover for an additional premium meaning that you would not need to go through what can be the laborious process of removing them from the van after a hard day’s work.
- Damage caused to ropes, packing materials and sheets up to a limit of £1,000.
The cost of such cover is usually quite minimal so you really should look into it
