It is pleasing to find that the number of new vans sold here in the UK in August 2021 has increased when compared with August 2020. In fact, apparently, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), August was the second best since records have been kept.

In August 2021, there were 20,582 new vans sold in the UK in the up to 3.5 tonnes category whereas in August 2020 the figure was 19,407. That is an increase of just over 6%.

The number of new pickups sold in August 2021 amounted to 2,459 compared to 2,239 in August last year – a rise of 9.8%. The number of new 4x4s sold in August 2021 amounted to 193 compared to 31 in August 2020 – a rise of 522.6%. The number of new vans sold in the below 2 tonnes category amounted to 882 in August 2021 compared to 1,150 in August 2020 – a fall of 23.3%. The number of new vans sold in the 2.0 tonnes to 2.5 tonnes category amounted to 2,889 compared to 2,760 in August 2020 – a rise of 4.7%. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 14,159 in August 2021 compared to 13,227 in August 2020 – a rise of 7.0%.

It is good to see that on a year to date basis to August 2021 the total number of new vans sold in the up to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 235,701 compared to 155,984 for the same period last year – a big increase of 51.1%.
