The number of new vans registered here in the UK in June 2021 in the up to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 34,363 according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) whereas in June 2020 the figure was 30,041. That is an increase of 14.4%. However in June 2019 the figure was 39,929 – a drop of almost 14% when compared with June this year.
The number of new pickups sold in June 2021 amounted to 3,858 compared to 3,644 in June 2020 – a rise of 5.9%. The number of new 4 x 4s sold in June 2021 totaled 508 compared to 178 in June 2020 – a rise of 185.4%. The number of new vans sold in the up to 2 tonnes category in June 2021 amounted to 1,282 compared to 1,576 in June 2020 – a drop of 18.7%. The number of new vans sold in the 2.0 to 2.5 tonnes category totaled 4,281 in June 2021 compared to 4,475 in June 2020 – a fall of 4.3%. The number of new vans sold in the 2.5 to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 24,434 in June 2021 compared to 20,168 in June 2020 – a rise of 21.2%.
On a year to date basis to June 2021, the total number of new vans sold in the up to 3.5 tonnes category amounted to 191,513 compared to 108,876 for the same period last year – an increase of 88.1%.

5. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1,909
The top 5 selling new vans in the UK on a year to date basis to June 2021 were: –
1. Ford Transit Custom 26,978
2. Ford Transit 17,644
3. Volkswagen Transporter 12,586
4. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 11,655
5. Vauxhall Vivaro 10,116
