Unfortunately, there has been another monthly fall in the number of new vans registered here in the UK according to data produced by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). November 2019 is the third month in a row that there has been a drop in the number of new vans sold. This news will no doubt be of concern to those motor traders that sell both used and new vans.
In November 2019 there were 26,238 new vans registered in the UK up to 3.5 tonnes whereas for the same month last year the figure was 29,035. That is a fall of 9.6%.
There was a rise of 17.2% in the number of new pickups sold from 3,876 to 4,541 when comparing November 2019 with November 2018. There was a drop of 12.4% in the number of new 4 x 4s sold from 170 to 149. There was a reduction of 24.0% in the number of new vans sold in the up to 2 tonnes category from 1,957 to 1,468. There was a drop of 19.4% in the number of new vans sold in the 2 tonnes to 2.5 tonnes category from 4,306 to 3,472. There was a fall of 11.4% in the number of new vans sold in the 2.5 tonnes to 3.5 tonnes category from 18,726 to 16,588.
However, on a year to date basis to November 2019, there was a rise of 1.9% in the sale of new vans in the all van category to 3.5 tonnes from 331,776 on a year to date basis to November 2018 to 338,227.

2. Vauxhall Vivaro 2,452
3. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2,321
The top 3 selling new vans in the UK on a year to date basis to November 2019 were: –
1. Ford Transit Custom 48,912
2. Ford Transit 24,594
3. Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 23,931
In October 2019, the number of new vans sold here in the UK fell by 11.0% to 25,373 compared to 28,494 sold in October 2018. On a year to date basis, the number of new vans sold to October 2019 was 311,989 up by 3.1% when compared with the 302,741 sold for the same period to October 2018.
In September 2019, the number of new vans sold here in the UK fell by 23.5% to 41,216 compared to 53,848 sold in September 2018. On a year to date basis, the number of new vans sold to September 2019 was 286,616 up by 4.5% when compared with the 274,247 sold for the same period to September 2018.
